Transforming a Passion Into a Business

Many of the women who are highlighted in the spotlight on this blog do not consider their business as a job. In fact, for many of the women, the business actually started as a part-time hobby; something that they were passionate about that eventually transformed into a business.

It may seem like a huge and scary transition to go from a stable job to creating a business that is fun but it should be done in baby steps. Keep your day job while you play around with the notion of starting a new business. This will allow you to test your product within the identified market without fully committing to it. It will also give you time to determine if this is really what you want to do full-time.

Since we can all learn about following our dreams from women who have actually done it, here are a few to check out:

Kathy Grandfield knows how to make my mouth water by creating her delicious chocolate treats. She left corporate America to become a Chocolate Goddess.

Elena Perrotta loves to take old items and find new uses for them by adding her own personal touches. This hobby has turned into a new online business.

Candy Sweeney was searching for a safe soap that her son, who had been diagnosed with cancer, could use. When she couldn't find the right product, she created it herself and it is now a business!

When I wanted to start my own business 10 years ago I spent ages trying to come up with an idea for what I could do - I just knew I wanted to run my own business. Then it hit me... I already had a business. Three friends had their own businesses and I helped them all on an 'as-needed' basis, assisting with their business writing, admin and PR. The business has changed over the years, but always around my passions and strengths.

Following your passion never steers you wrong. Find something that you enjoy to do so much that you do it for love and not money and then you never feel like you are working.
